Russian River 2013

Each year we spend a week at the Odd Fellows Recreation Center in Guerneville, CA.  They have cabins you can rent, tent camping, and also many people own cabins in the park.  It's just like an old fashioned family camp, with activities each day and evening.  There is a kids/teen center where there are games, foosball, pool, ping pong, crafts.  The park for kids is always a hit with my crew.  There is a baseball diamond, tennis courts, basketball courts, driving range, a private beach with lifeguard on duty, a small restaurant/store, small arcade, and even a stage for shows.  Really this place is so much fun, the only time we need to leave is to get groceries.  (Ok we also go into Sonoma one day for train town and lunch).  So without further ado pics from our trip to the Russian River.

Each day Noni (aka Grandma) had presents for the kids.  The first one were little kids metal detectors.  The kids loved them.

Down at the beach part of the river is roped off depending on how deep it is.  There is a super shallow area, and a deeper area for swimming.  Camille had fun playing on the floats.

Can I tell you how much I love these life vests?  They snap in the back and they are much more comfortable to wear than standard life jackets.

Lilliana was starting to dig out their "hot tub"

More progress made

At piggy park playing on the swings.  In the background is one of those old fashioned merry go rounds you don't find at parks anymore.  My kids burned tons of energy running that thing around and around.

If you have a kid that likes trains make the trip to Train Town in Sonoma for the day.  They will be in heaven - at least Mark was.

Mark was explaining to Allison all about the coupler that joined the engine to the train cars

The passengers - Mark, Allison, Grandpa Jack, Noni, Jim, Camille, Lilliana and me (taking pic)

Half-way through the train ride the train stops at a miniature little western town.  This is Mark in the firehouse.

They also have a host of other small rides for the kids.  There is a carousel,

ferris wheel

There is also a little plane ride, the swings, a small roller coaster, and something else that I can't remember. There is a store there with every train thing imaginable.  We didn't tell Mark about it, although I bought a few of his birthday presents while we were there.

Allison was not pleased she couldn't ride the ferris wheel too

Making crafts in the kids center

Another day we took a hike in the the redwood forest in Gueneville.  It's called Armstrong Redwoods.  There is nice easy trail you can take with lots of cool things to see.

Just another day relaxing on the river

Near the park is a bakery called Wildflower bakery.  They have this awesome garden in back where they grow a lot of the ingredients for the breads and things they make.  It's only open 2-3 days a week.  The kids love to explore the garden because it has all kinds of paths and plants and flowers.  There is always a plethora of butterflies too.

An afternoon just relaxing by the water

It's a wonderful week.  If anyone wants to join us next summer or anytime in the future let me know.
