Spring Break Trip

The kids had the whole week off of school for spring break.  Jim had some vacation time so we decided to take the kids to Tahoe.  We had been promising to take them to the snow all winter long and just hadn't had the time.  Well this would probably be our last chance so off we went.  We left on Tuesday afternoon and planned to come back on Saturday afternoon.

Jim managed to score a really great deal at the Hyatt in Incline Village so we stayed there.  Wednesday morning we woke up and Mark said he wasn't feeling well.  Uh oh.  Mark wanted to ski so badly that one minute he would say he was fine and start to get ready and the next he was sick and was going to stay in the hotel.  It was time to get on the slopes and Mark had managed to convince us that he was well enough to ski.  A short 5 minute drive and we were at Diamond Peaks.  When we got there Mark got a little sick in the parking lot so I assumed that after we got Lilliana checked in to ski school I would take Mark back to the hotel.  Nope this kid really wanted to ski so we got him enrolled and into ski school.  This sounds like I am a bad parent letting my sick kid go get other kids sick, but really he didn't have a fever and I suspect it was just a bit of altitude sickness.  Mark seems to have a very sensitive stomach and I can remember this would happen to my brother every time we would go skiing when I was a kid.

After getting Jim, Lilliana, and Mark off skiing I took the younger girls back to the hotel where we walked around and explored a bit.  We found the arcade and the girls had a good time pretending to play the games.  It was great I didn't have to spend a dime and they thought they were playing.

Later I took the girls on a drive around Tahoe trying to find a bit of snow for them to play in as most snow had melted and it seemed the only snow left was at the ski resorts.  Camille really wanted to make a snow angel so we had to find some.  We did but of course I totally didn't bring the girls snowsuits in the car and Allison fell asleep so no snow play, yet.  By now it was the afternoon and it was time to pick up the skiers.  Everyone had a great time.

On day 2 it was raining lightly.  Jim and the kids could have skied but it would have been very wet so we decided to pass and take the kids into Reno to the discovery museum and then to lunch.  We drove over Mt Rose and there was lots of snow up there at 8,000 feet.  (Mental note come back to the summit tomorrow and let the little girls play in the snow).

Day 3 was a ski day for Jim, Lilliana, and Mark.  I took Allison and Camille back up Mt Rose to play in the snow.  Allison had a hard time walking in the hard packed snow with her boots but was happy to just sit and let us throw a bit of snow around.  Camille immediately went to the snow to make a snow angel.

Since we were already half way we drove back over to Reno but this time we went to visit my very good friend Kelli.  Even though we seem to hardly talk it felt like we hadn't been apart at all.  It was so very nice to visit with her and let our kids play like we used to.  Camille and Kelli's son Jason had a GRAND time playing in their backyard in the mud.

The day went far to quickly and it was time to go back over the mountain to pick-up the skiers.  While we were waiting for the skiers to finish their runs I put the snow clothes back on the kids and let them play for a bit.  There was another mom with her daughter there and they were sledding.  Well really the mom was doing most of the work.  All the sudden I look over and Camille has gotten into the back of their sled.  Umm are you ok pulling Camille too??  The lady was very kind and let Camille tag along.  After a bit Camille tried pulling the sled with Allison in it.  She wasn't able to get very far and kept falling down.  It was quiet comical to watch.

Saturday we drove home.  We stopped at Nut Tree in Vacaville for lunch.  In the middle of the shopping area is a playground with a carousel and a train which we OF COURSE had to ride.  It was a nice little break from the drive.

We had a great time.  I think this might become an annual trip for spring break.
